The 2nd Annual Defeat DIPG Superhero Sprint & 6K, presented by Headfirst Summer Camps, was amazing, and it raised over $150,000!
We are thrilled to report that 1,546 people signed up to participate in this year’s event! This includes 1,117 people registered for the 6K and 1K/Tot Sprint located on the grounds of our Community Partner Westfield Montgomery. In addition, 429 virtual runners supported our event from afar, including roughly 150 each gathered in honor of Charlie Poole in New York and in memory of Stella Beard in Wyoming.
We want to give a special shout out to Karun Tilak (top male open finisher) and Aubrey Weller (top female open finisher). Also, we express our sincere appreciation to our top individual fundraiser, Chrys Kefalas, and our top fundraising team, Team Covington (Covington & Burling LLP).
We were so honored to have an amazing real live superhero with us at the event — Lola Munoz, who is 12 years old and fighting DIPG. Super Lola was an inspiration to us all, and we will be soon sharing some incredible photos of this beautiful young lady who stole our hearts.
Our event sponsors made this great race possible. Our Presenting Sponsor Headfirst Summer Camps again went above and beyond, and we are so thankful for the Superhero Central they created filled with fun activities for the children.
Please join us in also thanking our Platinum Sponsors PepsiCo, Whole Foods Market, NextGen LED, and By Brian Edward, and our Gold Sponsors Kaiser Permanente and Borrus Family Dentistry. Please check out our Sponsorship page to see our full list of generous sponsors, and be sure to support these philanthropic businesses.
We want to thank Tommy McFly from The Tommy Show! on 94.7 Fresh FM for his time, energy and passion for the cause; DJ Jamaal for the awesome tunes; Joanna Little Photography and Naviimpressions for capturing event photos; Lillian Cohen for her graphic design contributions; and Elizabeth OConnor and Jen Davis for their work on the Salute Our Superheroes Wall.
We had a stellar group of volunteers that worked incredibly hard and made this event possible, and we are so grateful! We thank the excellent event staff from Montgomery County Road Runners Club, and we thank the spectators that made key contributions to the fun and festive atmosphere.
Mark your calendars for May 27, 2018 – we hope to see all of you again next year!
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support for our event and the fight to Defeat DIPG!
